EMPHASIS WAS GIVEN ON THE COLLECTION AND EVALUATION OF DATA REGARDING THE BIOLOGY AND THE ECOLOGY OF THE ARTEMIA STRAIN INHABITING THE LAKE. THE ABIOTIC PARAMETERS OF THE WATER WERE MEASURED, THE FUNCTION OF THE LAKE AS A SEASONAL LAKE WAS DETERMINED AND THE FLUCTUATIONS OF THE WATER PARAMETERS WERE INTERPRETED. THE COMPOSITION AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE ARTEMIA POPULATION IN THE LAKE WAS INVESTIGATED, AS WELL AS THE LIFE CYCLE (HATCHING, AGE STRUCTURE, DENSITY OF THE ACTIVE POPULATION, NUMBER OF GENERATIONS, REPRODUCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS) AND THE ADAPTIONS OF THE STRAIN TO THE ECOLOGICAL CONDITIONS OF THE LAKE. THE ENERGY ENTERING THE ECOSYSTEM WAS ESTIMATED AND THE PRIMARY PRODUCTION OF THE ECOSYSTEM WAS MEASURED ON CRITICAL DATES OF THE INHABITALE PERIOD. THE TROPHIC RELATIONS IN THE ECOSYSTEM WERE EXPLAINED AND THE TROPHIC CYCLE OF THE SALT LAKE WAS DESCRIBED. THE STRUCTURE OF THE NUCLEI OF SOMATIC CELLS AND THE CHROMOSOME NUMBER OF THE LARNACA STRAIN WERE STUDIED; THE SYSTEMATICS OF THE ARTEMIA OF CYPRUS IN RELATION TO THE SPECIATION PROBLEM OF THE MEDITERRANEAN ARTEMIA WAS DISCUSSED. THE LARNACA STRAIN WAS EVALUATED AS A FOOD SOURCE FOR OTHER ORGANISMS. THE EVALUATION INCLUDED DETERMINATION OF HATCHING QUALITY OF THE CYSTS, CYST ANDNAUPLIAR BIOMETRICS, FATTY ACID COMPOSITION ANALYSIS OF THE CYSTS, AND BIOASSAY TEST. THE STRUCTURE OF THE NUCLEI OF SOMATIC CELLS AND THE CHROMOSOME NUMBER OF THE LARNACA STRAIN WERE STUDIED; THE SYSTEMATICS OF THE ARTEMIA OF CYPRUS IN RELATION TO THE SPECIATION PROBLEM OF THE MEDITERRANEAN ARTEMIA WAS DISCUSSED. THE LARNACA STRAIN WAS EVALUATED AS A FOOD SOURCE FOR OTHER ORGANISMS. THE EVALUATION INCLUDED DETERMINATION OF HATCHING QUALITY OF THE CYSTS, CYST ANDNAUPLIAR BIOMETRICS, FATTY ACID COMPOSITION ANALYSIS OF THE CYSTS, AND BIOASSAY TEST. THE NUTRITIONAL SUPERIORITY OF THE CYPRUS STRAIN WAS INDICATED. WITH THIS STUDY THE EQUILIBRIUM RELATIONS IN THE ECOSYSTEM OF THE SALT LAKE WERE REVEALED, THE ADAPTATION OF THE ARTEMIA STRAIN TO THE ECOLOGICAL CONDITIONS OF ITS ENVIRONMENT WERE MADE EVIDENT, AND THE NECESSITY OF CONSERVATION AND PROTECTION OF THE SALT LAKE OF LARNACA WAS STRESSED.","ΜΕΛΕΤΗ ΤΟΥ ΟΙΚΟΣΥΣΤΗΜΑΤΟΣ ΤΗΣ ΑΛΥΚΗΣ ΤΗΣ ΛΑΡΝΑΚΑΣ ΤΗΣ ΚΥΠΡΟΥ.
