ΓΕΝΕΤΙΚΗ ΜΕΛΕΤΗ ΠΛΗΘΥΣΜΩΝ ΤΟΥ ΕΝΤΟΜΟΥ CERATITIS CAPITATA (WIEDEMANN) (DIPTERA: TEPHRITIDAE)
Abstract
dc:descriptionTHE GENETIC STRUCTURE OF 16 WILD POPULATION OF MEDFLY SAMPLED FROM DIFFERENT GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS AND ALSO FROM DIFFERENT HOST FRUIT SPECIES ARE STUDIED ELECTROPHORETICALLY. THE RESULTS ARE SUMMARIZED AS FOLLOWS. 1) ALL THE MEDITERRANEAN POPULATIONS PROVED TO BE HIGHLY MONUMORPHIC (H=0.051), WHEREAS THOSE FROM SOUTH AFRICA, KENYA AND REUNIUS WERE POLYMORPHIC (H=0.234, 0.262 AND 0,153 RESPECTIVELY). 2) THE NUMBER OF DIFFERENT HOST SPECIES DO NOT SEEM TO BE POSITIVELY CORRELATED WITH THE GENETIC VARIABILITY OF MEDFLY. 3) THE LOW LEVEL OF HETEROZYGOSITY, MAY BE DUE TO HISTORICAL EVENTS, ESPECIALLY THE TIME ELAPSED SINCE COLONI RATION AND TO THE NUMBER OF FOUNDED INDIVIDUALS. 4) IT DID NOT DETECT ANY PATTERNOF PREPERENCE FOR OVIPOSITION SITES CORRELATED EITHER WITH THE KIND OF THE SIZE OF THE FRUITS. 5) ELECTROPHORETIC DATA, IMPLY THAT THE MEDFLY PROBABLY FOLLOWED 2 DIFFERENT UNITS OF DISPERSION: A) ONE THROUGH THE NILE VALLEY TO EGYPT ANDTHROUGH THE IBERIAN PENNINSULA. 6) NO SYSTEMATIC CHANGES IN ALLOEE FREQUENCIESWERE OBSERVED IN POPULATIONS KEPT UNDER LABORATORY CONDITIONS.
