ΣΥΜΒΟΛΗ ΣΤΗΝ ΥΔΡΟΓΕΩΛΟΓΙΚΗ ΔΙΕΡΕΥΝΗΣΗ ΤΟΥ ΑΣΒΕΣΤΟΛΙΘΙΚΟΥ ΥΔΡΟΦΟΡΟΥ ΣΥΣΤΗΜΑΤΟΣ ΤΩΝ ΠΗΓΩΝ ΑΓΥΙΑΣ ΔΥΤ. ΚΡΗΤΗΣ
Abstract
dc:descriptionIN THE NORTH-WEST OF THE RANGE OF THE WHITE MOUNTAINS OF WESTERN CRETE, WHICH IS COMPOSED OF CALCAREOUS ROCK, THERE ARE THE SOURCES OF AYIA, MESKLA, ANAVALLONAND KOUFO, WHICH HAVE AN AVERAGE ANNUAL OUTLET VOLUME OF 129 MM3. OF THESE SOURCES, THE MOST IMPORTANT IS THE AYIA GROUP. IT IS ALSO NOTEWORTHY THAT THE DISCHARGE RATE OF THE AYIA SOURCES PRESENTS ONLY MINOR FLUCTUATIONS OVER THE COURSEOF EACH YEAR. THE AVERAGE ANNUAL OUTLET VOLUME OF THE AYIA SOURCES IS 79,8 MM3AND THE FLUCTUATION OF THE PIEZOMETRIC SURFACE OF THE AQUIFER IS ONLY ABOUT 4 METRES. THE MOVEMENT OF UNDERGROUND WATER TOWARDS THE AYIA SOURCES IS VERY SIMILAR TO THAT OF THE WATER TOWARDS A PUMPED WELL IN A POROUS MEDIUM, ACCORDING TOTHE JACOB MODEL. IT WAS FOUND THAT THIS MODEL ALSO DESCRIBED THE MOVEMENT OF WATER TO THE PUMPED BORES UPSTREAM OF THE AYIA SOURCES. THE LIMESTONE AQUIFER SYSTEM OF THE AYIA SOURCES OWING TO THE GEOLOGICAL AND TECTONIC STRUCTURES OF THEAREA, HAS NO CARSTIC DUCTS AND INSTEAD THE MOVEMENT OF UNDERGROUND WATER TAKESPLACE THROUGH NARROW FRACTURES WHICH EXIST IN PROFUSION. AS A RESULT, THIS PARTICULAR SYSTEM BEHAVES LIKE AN EXTENSIVE AQUIFER IN A POROUS MEDIUM.
