Μελέτη του προβλήματος των αναγκαστικών νοσηλειών αρρένων ασθενών στο Κ.Θ.Ψ.Π.Τ. και προτάσεις για την αντιμετώπισή του
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe aim of the present study was to investigate the problem of the numerous and multiple compulsory hospitalizations of male psychiatric inpatients of The State Mental Hospital of Tripolis and, by extension, that of other public mental hospitals inside and outside the country. For a given period, the patients admitted under the civil commitment criteria were compared with the patients who accepted admission to the hospital voluntarily. Several factors were analyzed statistically: the mean age, the diagnosis and duration of the illness, the employment, the family situation and, finally, the frequency and the legal status of readmissions for a two year follow-up period. The chronicity of the mental disorder as well as the duration of the hospitalization were found to have a significant correlation with the "dangerousness" criteria of the compulsory admissions and readmissions. The results of the study and similar findings elsewhere suggest that the mental hospital should develop a new leading role in the community psychiatry movement, for the purpose of limiting the inpatient population as well as promoting the active continuation of care of the chronic psychiatric patient in the community.
