Abstract
dc:descriptionTHE ACID HYDROLYSIS OF THE BIOMASS AND MORE SPECIFICALLY OF THE WOOD IS A KNOWNPROCESS SINCE THE 19TH CENTURY. NEVERTHELESS, DESPITE THE FACT THAT IN THE PAST DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGIES HAD BEEN DEVELOPED AND ANALOGOUS PROCESS HAD BEEN PROPOSED AIMING AT THE PRODUCTION OF FERMENTABLE TO ALCOHOL SUGARS, THEIR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION HAS NEVER BEEN REALIZED IN THE WESTERN WORLD FOR ECONOMIC REASONS. THE RESEARCH ON THIS AREA WAS AGAIN STIMULATED SINCE THE LAST 20 YEARS DUE TO THE ENERGY CRISIS AND THIS WORK COULD BE INCLUDED INSIDE THIS NEW RESEARCH EFFORT. THUS, IN THE PRESENT WORK, THE FOLLOWING HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED: A. LITERATURE REVIEW OF THE UP-TO-NOW PROPOSED TECHNOLOGIES B. PRESENTATION OF A NEW HOPEFULL TECHNOLOGY IN THE INDUSTRIAL LEVEL C. AN EFFORT TO TRANSFER THE TECHNOLOGY IN THE INDUSTRIAL LEVEL D. DEVELOPMENT AND EXECUTION OF A CONCRETE EXPERIMENTALANALYTICAL PROTOCOL IN ORDER TO EXPLOIT ALL OF THE USEFUL PROCESS PRODUCTS E. MATHEMATICAL SIMULATION OF THE CHEMICAL REACTIONS THROUGH PSEUDOKINETIC MODELS FOR THE OPTIMIZATION OF EVENTUAL "SCALE-UPS" F. A GLOBAL PROCESS SIMULATION THROUGH DETAILED MASS AND ENERGY BALANCES.
