Abstract
dc:descriptionIN THE PRESENT STUDY AN EXPERIMENTAL METHOD OF DEFINITION OF THE STRESS AND STRAIN FIELD AROUND THE CRACK TIP IN METALLIC EDGE CRACKED SPECIMENS DEVELOPS. THEBIREFRINGENT COATING TECHNIQUE WAS APPLIED TO ESTIMATE ELASTIC AND PLASTIC DEFORMATIONS AS WELL AS TO DEFINE THE ELASTIC-PLASTIC BOUNDARIES IN SUCCESSIVE LOADING STEPS UNDER CONDITION OF PLANE STRESS. THE ANALYTICAL CALCULATION OF STRESS STATE BASED ON EXPERIMENTAL DATA WAS CARRIED OUT WITH THE AID OF THE THEORY OF ELASTIC FULLY PLASTIC MATERIALS. THE DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS OF PRANDTL-RENSS AS WELL AS THE CRITERION OF V. MISES WERE USED. PARTICULARLY THE PRESENT WORK REFERS TO THE VERY DIFFICULT PROBLEM OF DETERMINATION OF THE STRESS AND DEFORMATION FIELD IN THE VICINITY OF THE CRACK TIP OF A RECTANGULAR TENSILE METALLIC SHEET WITH SYMMETRIC EDGE CRACKS WITH THE BIREFRIGENT COATING TECHNIQUE OF PHOTELASTICITY.
