dc:descriptionTHE GENERATION AND GROWTH OF WIND WAVES IS DUE TO THE ACTION OF THREE PHYSICAL PROCESSES: THE ENERGY TRANSFER FROM WIND TO SEA, THE WAVE ENERGY DISSIPATION AND THE NONLINEAR ENERGY TRANSFER BETWEEN THE INTERACTING WAVES. THIS PHYSICAL PHENOMENON IS STUDIED BY MEANS OF IN-SITU WAVE MEASUREMENTS AND THE SYNTHESIS OF A SECOND GENERATION WAVE MODEL. WAVE DATA WERE COLLECTED IN THRACE SEA USING A PRESSURE TRANSDUCER GAUGE. THE ANALYSIS OF THE WAVE DATA IS MADE WITH THE FAST FOURIER TRANSFORM (FFT). THE MATHEMATICAL SIMULATION OF THE PHENOMENON CONSISTSOF SOLVING NUMERICALLY THE DIFFERENTIAL EQUATION OF WAVE ENERGY BALANCE. THE FORMATION OF A SECOND GENERATION WAVE FORECASTING MODEL GIVES THE ABILITY TO ESTIMATE THE WAVE SPECTRA AND THE CHARACTERISTIC WAVE PARAMETERS OF WAVE HEIGHT AND WAVE PERIOD IN ANY SEA AREA UNDER THE ACTION OF ANY WIND FIELD SITUATION.
