THEY ARE LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT ENZYMES THAT RESIST ACID CONDITIONS BUT ARE DESTROYED AT 100 K FOR 10 MIN . THE ENZYMES SHOW DIFFERENT PRETENCES TOWARDS END-LABELLED NATURAL SUBSTRATES (55 RNA). RNASE I SHOWS THE SAME SPECIFICITY ASTHE RNASE OF B CEREUS I.E. IT HYDROLYZES BONDS NEIGHBOURING TO PURIMIDIC-NUCLEOSIDES. RNASE II SHOWS THE SAME SPECIFICITY AS T1 RNASE I.E. IT HYDROLYZES BONDNEIGHBOURING TO GUANOSINE. IN THE SECOND PART OF THE THESIS, FOLLOWING INVESTIGATION OF THE PHOSPHODIESTEROLYTIC ACTIVITY OF MOUSE LIVER CYTOPLASM, A PHOSPHODIESTERASE ACTING OPTIMALLY AT PH 7,5 WAS PURIFIED.
