Abstract
dc:descriptionTHE PURPOSE OF THE WORK WAS THE BENEFICIATION OF MILOS LOW GRADE KAOLIN. THE MAIN OBJECT WAS TO INVESTIGATE THE POSSIBILITIES OF THE LOW GRADE KAOLIN'S BENEFICIATION BY SELECTIVE FLOCCULATION. THERE WERE USED FOR THESE PURPOSE: A) TWO KAOLIN SAMPLES. B) THE POLYMER FLOCCULATION: SEPARAN-NP10 (AMPHO NALCO 600 (CATIONIC), CMC (ANIONIC). C)THE DISPERSANT (NAPO3)6. FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE OPTIMUM CONDITIONS FOR THE SELECTIVE FLOCCULATION THE FOLLOWING FACTORS WERE STUDIED AS A FUNCTION OF PH: 1) THE CHANGE OF SUSPENSION STABILITY, WITHOUT DISPERSANT ADDITION. 2) THE EFFECT OF DISPERSANT (NAPO3)6 QUANTITY ON SUSPENSION BEFORE AND AFTER DISPERSANT (NAPO3)6 ADDITION. THE CONCLUSIONS OF THIS WORK ARE THE FOLLOWING: A) THE OPTIMUM RESULTS WERE OBTAINED, AT PH=3, BY USING CMC=0,7 G/T,(NAPO3)6=2,8 KG/T. B) DISPERSANT (NAPO3)6 CONTRIBUTED TO THE OPTIMUM SELECTIVEPOLYMER ADSORPTION ON THE ALUNITE AND S102 MINERALS SURFACE. C) THE POLYMER FLOCCULANTS USED, CMC PRODUCED THE BEST RESULTS. THE CATIONIC NALCO 600 PRODUCED LESS SATISFACTORY RESULTS. THE AMPHOTERIC SEPARAN NP10 CAUSED SELECTIVE FLOCCULATION, BUT THE SEPARATION WAS NOT SO SATISFACTORY AS THE ONE OBTAINED BY CMC AND NALCO 600. D) THE MECHANISM OF ADSORPTION FOR ALL THE POLYMER USED IS BASED ON HYDROGEN BONDING BETWEEN POLYMER MOLECULE AND PARTICLES SURFACE SITES.
