dc:descriptionTHE AIM OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO STUDY POSSIBLE EFFECTS OF CHEWING GUM TRAINING ON THE MASTICATORY SYSTEM, THE BITE FORCE, THE TACTILE SENSIBILITY AND THE CHEWING EFFICIENCY AND IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT CHEWING EXERCISES HAVE AN EFFECT ON THESTOMATOGNATHIC SYSTEM AND ON ITS PHYSIOLOGICAL PARAMETERS BOTH IN SHORT AND LONG TERM PERSPECTIVE. 1. DYSFUNCTION SYMPTOMS INCREASED DIRECTLY AFTER CHEWING TRAINING AND THEY DECREASED DURING THE 28 DAYS EXPERIMENTAL PERIOD. BY THE END OF THE EXPERIMENT THEY BECAME THE SAME AS IN THE BEGINING. THIS INDICATES THAT AFTER SOME TIME OF TRAINING THE EFFECT OF CHEWING EXERCISES ON THE STOMATOGNATHIC SYSTEM MUSCLES AND THE TMJ DISAPPEARS, AT LEAST, IN HEALTHY PEOPLE. 2. BITE FORCE INCRESED SIGNIFICANTLY AFTER ONE MONTH CHEWING TRAINING. THIS INCREASE REMAINED ONE MONTH AFTER THE END OF THE EXPERIMENT. 3. THE TACTILE SENSIBILITY DECREASED AFTER HALF AN HOUR CHEWING TRAINING . 4. CHEWING EFFICIENCY INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY AFTER ONE MONTH CHEWING TRAINING, WHILE IT DECREASED SIGNIFICANTLY AFTER HALF AN HOUR CHEWING TRAINING. 5. THE TIME NEEDED FOR TEN CHEWING CYCLES DECREASED AFTER 30 MIN. CHEWING TRAINING.
