OPTICAL TECHNIQUES WERE EMPLOYED FOR COLLECTION, TRANSPORTATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF BOTH AEROBIC AND ANAEROBIC MACROBICS. THE EVALUATION AND STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THE RESULTS OF THE PRESENT STUDY SHOWED THAT THE MICROBIAL FLORA IN ACUTE PERIAPICAL INFLAMMATION IS MIXED IN WHICH THE ANAEROBIC STRAINS ARE PREDOMINANT. POSITIVE CORRELATIONS WAS FOUND BETWEEN THE PRESENCE OF ANAEROBES AND THE MOST SEVERE CLINICAL SYMPTOMS, THE MOST PROFOUND PAIN, THE MOST EXTENDED EDEMA AND THE AMOUNT OF EXANDATE, WHILE NO CORRELATION WAS FOUND STATISTICALLY BETWEEN THE TYPE OF THE MICROBIAL FLORA ANDTHE PRESENCE OF FISTULA.
