Abstract
dc:descriptionIN THIS THESIS, AN ORIGINAL AND INTEGRAL MATHEMATICAL MODELING METHOD IS DEVELOPED AND PRESENTED AS AN INSTRUMENT IN STUDYING THE DYNAMIC BEHAVIOUR OF ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION. THE ADVANTAGE OF THIS METHOD IS THE POSSIBILITY OF GIVING REALISTIC ESTIMATIONS OF POLLUTANT CONCENTRATIONS UNDER CONDITIONS OF LACK OF ANALYTIC METEOROLOGICAL DATA AND IN SITES WITH COMPLICATED METEOROLOGICAL FIELDS. THEMAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF THE METHOD PRESENTED IS THE LAGRANGIAN TREATMENT OF ATMOSPHERIC DIFFUSION. ESSENTIALY THE MAIN IDEA INVOLVES CONSTRUCTING TRAJECTORIES OF THOUSANDS OF INDIVIDUAL PARTICLES AND THEN STUDYING, AT CERTAIN TIMES OR DISTANCES DOWNSTREAM, THE RESULTING DISTRIBUTION OF CONCENTRATION AT A GIVEN SPACE-TIME POINT. ALL DIFFUSION (MOTION OF PARTICLES) AT TIME SCALES LARGER THAN THE AVERAGING TIME FOR THE MEAN WIND FIELD IS ACCOMPLISHED BY TIME AND SPACE VARIATIONS IN THE MEAN WINDS THAT ARE OBTAINED EITHER FROM A DYNAMICAL "MESOSCALE SIMULATION MODEL", OR FROM A "LARGE-EDDY SIMULATION MODEL", IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RESPECTIVE SCALES OF MOTION CONSIDERED IN THE CASE OF STUDY. THE MAIN PRINCIPAL, THAT IS FOLLOWED FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE SUBGRID LAGRANGIAN PARTICLESTATISTICS, IS BASED ON THE FACT THAT THE DIFFUSIVE-DISPERSIVE MOTIONS, IN THESE SCALES, FOLLOW A MARKOV-N PROCESS. IN PRINCIPLE, AN EQUATION FOR THE RANDOM FLUCTUATION OF THE TURBULENT VELOCITY OF A PARTICLE IS DETERMINED AND THEN TRAJECTORIES OF THOUSANDS OF INDIVIDUAL PARTICLES ARE CONSTRUCTED.
