dc:descriptionTHE SUBJECT OF THIS DISSERTATION IS THE STUDY OF NUMERICAL SOLUTIONS OF THE NON-LINEAR PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS, DESCRIBING THE SIMULTANEOUS MOVEMENT OFWATER AND SOLUTES IN A ONE-DIMENSIONAL SATURATED-UNSATURATED SOIL PROFILE WITHMETHODS OF FINITE ELEMENTS. THE NUMERICAL SOLUTIONS ARE BASED UPON FOUR FINITEELEMENT SCHEMES: A) THE STANDARD GALERKIN METHOD (SGM), B) THE MASS LUMPING FINITE ELEMENT METHOD (MLGM), C) THE SIMPLE MASS LUMPING FINITE ELEMENT METHOD (SMLGM) AND D) THE DISCONTINUOUS GALERKIN OR PETROV-GALERKIN METHOD (PGM). IN ALLTHESE COMPUTATIONAL SCHEMES ONE DIMENSIONAL LINEAR ELEMENT IS USED. (SHORTENED)
