ΣΥΜΒΟΛΗ ΣΤΗ ΜΕΛΕΤΗ ΤΗΣ ΟΙΚΟΛΟΓΙΑΣ ΚΑΙ ΒΙΟΛΟΓΙΑΣ ΤΗΣ CALLIANASSA TYRRHENA (PETAGNA, 1792) (CRUSTACEA, DECOPODA, THALASSINIDEA)
Abstract
dc:descriptionTHE POPULATION OF C. TYRRHENA APPEARS AS A PATCH FORMED BY SURVIVAL DIFFERENCIES OF SETTLING MEGALOPAE THAT ARE DUE TO SEDIMENT CHARACTERISTICS. THE RANDOM SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF ADULTS WITHIN THE PATCH CAN BE EXPLAINED BY THE ABSENCE OF SEVERE ECOLOGICAL FORCES: POPULATION DENSITY DOES NOT SEEM TO BE AFFECTED BY BIOTIC FACTORS SUCH AS SEDIMENT ORGANIC CONTENT, DENSITY OF OTHER THALASSINIDS AND PHANEROGAM C. NODOSA BIOMASS, WHILE IT IS ONLY WEAKLY CORRELATED TO SEDIMENT TEXTURE AND EXPOSURE. THERE IS NO GREAT SEASONAL FLUNCTUATION IN POPULATION DENSITY AND SEX-RATIO WHILE THE REPRODUCTIVE PERIOD AND MOLTING ACTIVITY OF THE POPULATION ARE SEASONALLY DETERMINED. THE SPECIES LIVE MORE THAN THREE YEARS AND IT IS ITEROPOROUS WITH REPRODUCTION STARTING BY THE COMPLETION OF THE FIRST YEAR. SEXUAL DIMORPHISM EXIST IN ABSOLUTE INDIVIDUAL AS WELL AS RELATIVE ALLOMETRIC GROWTH. FECUNDITY DEPENDS ON FEMALE SIZE. REPRODUCTIVE EFFORT (DETERMINED BY TWO METHODS) SEEMS TO BE RELATIVELY LOW. LARVAL LIFE IS ABBREVIATED WITH ONLY TWO PLANCTONIC ZOEAL STAGES AND ONE MEGALOPA. THE SUCCESSFUL PASSAGE TO MEGALOPA DEPENDS MAINLY ON SALINITY WHILE THE RATE OF LARVAL DEVELOPMENT IS AFFECTEDSTRONGLY BY TEMPERATURE.
