THE MAIN OBSERVATIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1) THE POSITION AND THE SHAPE OF THE LOCAL THICKENING ARE NOT AFFECTED BY TREATMENTS WITH COLCHICINE IPC AND CALCIUM CHLORIDE. THE FACTORS INVOLVED IN THIS PEHNOMENON ARE ACTIVATED BEFORE THE SYMMETRICAL DIVISION OF GUARD CELLS AND ARE NOT ONLY MICROTUBULES, 2) THERE IS CO-ASSIGNMENT OF PERIPHERAL MICROTUBULES AND CELLULOSE MICROFIBRILS, 3) THE FORMATION OF THE STOMATAL PORE IS A RESULT OF GUARD CELLS PASS THROUGH AN INTERMEDIATE STAGE IN WHICH THEY ASSUME A KIDNEY LIKE SHAPE. IT SEEMS LIKELY THAT THE RADIAL MICROFIBRIL ARRANGEMENT IN THE PERIPHERAL WALLS IN THE KIDNEY-LIKESHAPE OF THE GUARD CELLS IS NECESSARY FOR THE MORPHOGENESIS OF THE DUMBELL-SHAPED GUARD CELLS .
