Abstract
dc:descriptionTHE AIMS OF THIS STUDY WERE TO MEASURE THE RATES OF LEAD-ION REMOVAL BY CEMENTATION WITH IRON BOTH FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS AND INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER AND TO MEASURE THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT PARAMETERS ON THESE RATES. IN THE PRESENT WORK THEKINETICS OF THE PB-FE CEMENTATION SYSTEM WAS INVESTIGATED WITH THREE DIFFERENTPRECIPITANT GEOMETRIES (IRON ROTATING DISC, IRON POWDER IN A STIRRED VESSEL AND AN IRON-SPHERE PACKED COLUMN). VARIOUS EXPERIMENTAL PARAMETERS WHICH INFLUENCE LEAD-ION REMOVAL WERE EXAMINED BOTH BY BATCH AND CONTINUOUS EXPERIMENTS. OPTIMUM CONDITIONS FOR LEAD REMOVAL AND MINIMUM EXCESS IRON CONSUMPTION WERE FOUND.EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS WERE CORRELATED WITH EMPIRICAL AND THEORETICAL MATHEMATICAL EQUATIONS. THE VALIDITY OF THE RESULTS WAS TESTED USING WASTEWATER FROM A STORAGE BATTERY MANUFACTURE. CEMENTATION CAN BE EFFECTIVELY USED FOR LEAD REMOVALFROM AQUEOUS SOLUTION AND WASTEWATER IN A HARMLESS PURE METALLIC FORM.
