THE EFFECTIVE POTENTIAL IS CALCULATED BY COUPLING THE SYSTEM TO EXTERNAL CURRENTS. IN THE HIGGS PHASE THERE EXISTS A REGION OF VALUES OF THE SCOLAR FIELD, WHERE THE EFFECTIVE POTENTIAL CANNOT BE DEFINED.
