Abstract
dc:descriptionIN THE THIRD CHAPTER OF THE PRESENT DISSERTATION IT WAS INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM OF THE EVALUATION OF THE STRESS SINGULARITY OF A CRACK TERMINATED AT THE APEX OF A BIWEDGE, WHICH IS LOADED EITHER BY PRESCRIBED TRACTIONS OR DISPLACEMENTS. IN THE FOURTH CHAPTER, THE INFLUENCE OF A CIRCULAR INCLUSION ON THE PREVAILING STRESS STATE IN A CRACKED PLATE, WHICH IS SUBMITTED AT INFINITY TO BIAXIAL ANTIPLANE SHEAR, WAS CONSIDERED. IN THE FIFTH CHAPTER, UTILIZING TO MATHEMATICAL THEORY OF ELASTICITY OF MUSKHELISHVILI, THE INTERACTION BETWEEN TWO UNEQUAL FINITE-LENGTH CRACKS AND AN INCLUSION IN A PLATE, WHICH IS SUBJECTED TO BIAXIAL ANTIPLANE SHEAR AT INFINITY, WAS CONSIDERED. IN THE SIXTH CHAPTER, THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FAILURE PROCESS IN A COMPOSITE PLATE CONSISTING OF AN INCLUSION SURROUNDED BY THE MATRIX, DUE TO A FAST RUNNING EDGE CRACK TOWARDS THEINCLUSION, WERE STUDIED. IN THE SEVENTH CHAPTER, SEN-PMMA PLATES WITH SIZED SOFT CIRCULAR ANNULI INSIDE THE MATRIX WERE SUBJECTED TO STATIC OR DYNAMIC TENSILE LOADINGS. THE INFLUENCE OF THE DUCTILE ANNULUS ON THE PROPAGATION OF THE INITIAL EDGE CRACK AS WELL AS ON THE VARIATION OF TOUGHNESS AT DIFFERENT STRAIN- RATES WAS INVESTIGATED. FINALLY, IN THE EIGHTTH CHAPTER THE MORE GENERAL PROBLEM OF THE PROPAGATION OF AN EDGE CRACK AND INTERACTION BETWEEN TWO SKEW-PARALLEL EDGE CRACKS IN PLATES CONTAINING MORE THAN ONE GLASS INCLUSIONS RANDOMLY DISTRIBUTED INSIDE A DUCTILE MATRIX, WERE CONSIDERED.
