Abstract
dc:descriptionTHE VISCOSIMETRIC STUDY OF DILUTE SOLUTIONS OF POLYSTYRENE POLYMETHYL METHACRYLATE AND POLYVINYL-2-PIRIDINE VERSUS TEMPERATURE SHOWED THAT THE MACROMOLECULARECHAINS UNDERGO AN ABRUPT LOWERING OF THEIR DIMENSIONS ABOVE THE Θ CONDITIONS. THIS TRANSITION IS ATTRIBUTED TO AN ABRUPT CHANGE OF THE FLEXIBILITY OF THE CHAIN AS IT IS DEMONSTRATED ON THE SHORT RANGE INTERACTIONS PARAMETER. THESE PHENOMENA HAVE BEEN VERIFIED BY THE TECHNIQUE OF GEL PERMEATION CHROMATOGRAPHY WHICH HAS BEEN USED FOR THE FIRST TIME. THIS METHOD REQUIRES VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF SAMPLE AND MAY PROVE USEFUL IN THE STUDY OF TRANSITIONS OF BIOPOLYMERS.
