Abstract
dc:descriptionTHE GROUNDWATER FLOW IN A CONFINED KARST AQUIFER IS STUDIED BY THE MODEL OF DOUBLE POROSITY. THIS IS A CONTINUOUS MODEL BUT IT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE HETEROGENEITY OF POROUS MEDIA. IT IS ALSO ASSUMED THAT IN KARST AQUIFERS THE FLOW CAN BE BEYOND THE UPPER LIMIT OF THE VALIDITY OF DARCY'S LAW. THE NONLINEAR EQUATION, WHICH GOVERNS NON-DARCIAN FLOW OF GROUNDWATER THROUGH FRACTURED MEDIA OF DOUBLE POROSITY, IS SOLVED NUMERICALLY USING FINITE ELEMENT METHOD. TWO MAIN COMPUTATIONAL SCHEMES ARE DEVELOPED TO DESCRIBE THE UNSTEADY, TWO-DIMENSIONAL FLOW OFGROUNDWATER IN CONFINED KARST AQUIFERS. THE FIRST OF THESE TWO SCHEMES WAS FOUND TO BE SIMPLE AND MORE CONVENIENT FOR APPLICATIONS IN CASES OF LARGE SCALE, REGIONAL FLOW OF GROUNDWATER. THE SECOND WAS FOUND TO BE COMPLICATED AND DIFFICULT TO USE
