ΕΠΙΔΡΑΣΗ ΤΗΣ ΔΙΑΤΟΜΗΣ ΤΟΥ ΟΠΤΙΚΟΥ ΝΕΥΡΟΥ ΕΠΙ ΤΗΣ ΕΝΔΟΦΘΑΛΜΙΟΥ ΠΙΕΣΕΩΣ ΚΑΙ ΔΡΑΣΕΩΣ ΩΣΜΩΤΙΚΩΝ ΚΑΙ ΜΗ ΔΙΟΥΡΗΤΙΚΩΝ ΣΕ ΑΥΤΗΝ
Abstract
dc:descriptionUNILATERAL OPTICAL NERVE TRANSECTION WAS CARRIED OUT RETROBULBARY AND A SHAM PROCEDURE WAS PERFORMED ON THE FELLOW EYE IN RABBITS. BASELINE I.O.P. VALUES, AS WELL AS I.O.P. RESPONSE TO SYSTEMICALLY ADMINISTERED OSMOTIC AGENTS (UREA, MANNITOL AND ASCORBIC ACID), ACETAZOLAMIDE, FUROSEMIDE, NACL O,9% AND WATER LOADING TEST WERE STUDIED IN EITHER EYES WITH INTACT OR TRANSECTED OPTIC NERVE. FINALLY THE EFFECT OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED SUBSTANCES ON THE WEIGHT OF VITREOUS, AQUEOUS AND LENS WAS DETERMINED IN BOTH EYES. THE I.O.P. OF THE EYES WITH TRANSECTED OPTIC NERVE WAS SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASED COMPARED TO THE FELLOW SHAM OPERATED EYES ON THE 2D POSTOPERATIVE DAY, PROBABLY DUE TO NON OBSERVABLE EARLYVASCULAR DISORDERS OF THE EYE. ON THE 7TH AND 30TH POSTOPERATIVE DAY, NO DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE I.O.P. VALUES OF THE TWO EYE WERE OBSERVED. OPTIC ATROPHY WAS VERIFIED BY THE DISC PALLOR AND ABSENCE OF THE DIRECT PUPILLARY LIGHT REACTION. THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED DRUGS SIGNIFICANTLY CHANGED THE I.O.P. OF BOTH EYES, WITHOUT ANY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM, FROM THE SECOND TO 30TH POSTOPERATIVE DAY. THE WEIGHT OF VITREOUS, LENS AND AQUEOUS WAS RESPONDED PROPORTIONALLY TO I.O.P. ALTERATIONS, BUT EQUALLY TO BOTH EYES. OUR RESULTSDO NOT SUPPORT THE HYPOTHESIS THAT THE OPTIC NERVE CARRIES FIBERS WHICH CAN SIGNIFICANTLY INFLUENCE THE I.O.P. OR EVEN MORE THE CHANGES OF THE "OSMOTIC STATUS" OF THE EYE.
