Abstract
dc:descriptionTHE ALUMINIUM IN BAUXITES OCCURS IN THREE DISTINCT MINERALS: GIBBSITE, BOEMITE, AND DIASPORE. THE LEACHING CONDITIONS DEPEND ON THE MINERALOGY OF THE BAUXITES. THE DIASPORIC BAUXITES NEED STRONGER LEACHING CONDITIONS THAN THE OTHER TYPES OF BAUXITES. THE AIM OF THIS WORK WAS TO STUDY THE MAIN VARIABLES WHICH HAVE AN EFFECT ON THE LEACHING BY THE BAYER PROCESS. THE VARIABLES STUDIED WERE:TEMPERATURE, NA2O CONTENT OF THE LEACH SOLUTION THE RATIO SOLIDS/LIQUID OF THE PULP, THE RATION AI2O3(G/L) / NA2O(G/L), PERCENTAGE CONTENT OF CALCIUM OXIDE, AND REACTION TIME. A MATHEMATICAL MODEL WAS DERIVED TO DESCRIBE THE ALUMINA RECOVERY AS A FUNCTION OF THE VARIABLES WHICH HAVE A SIGNIFICANT EFFECT ON IT.
