Abstract
dc:descriptionIN THE PRESENT WORK A STUDY WAS CARRIED OUT FOR THE INTERFACIAL BEHAVIOR OF ORGANOPHOSPHOROUS CATIONS AT THE MERCURY ELECTRODE- METHANOLIC SOLUTION INTERFACE. THE ADSORPTION OF THE PHOSPHONIUM CATIONS WAS TREATED BY MEANS OF THE NON IONIC LANGMUIR, FRUMKIN AND FLORY-HUGGINS ADSORPTION ISOTHERM. THE EXPERIMENTAL WORK WAS BASED ON DIFFERENTIAL CAPACITANCE MEASUREMENTS BY PHASE SELECTIVE A.C. POLAROGRAPHY FOR THE ADSORPTION OF [MEPH3P]+, [BUPH3P]+, [PGPH3P]+, [CPRPH3P]+, [VPH3P]+, [PH4]+ CATIONS FROM METHANOLIC SOLUTIONS AT THE DROPPING AND HANGING DROP MERCURY ELECTRODE. THE ADSORPTION PARAMETERS WERE DETERMINED ON THEBASIS OF OUR EXPERIMENTAL DATA AND THE NON IONIC ADSORPTION ISOTHERMS EXCEPT THE MAXIMUM SURFACE CONCENTRATION WHICH WAS DETERMINED FROM CAPACITANCE MEASUREMENTS DEPENDED ON TIME AT THE DME (OF LONG DROP TIME) AND HMDE. THE VALUES OFTHIS PARAMETER ARE ORDERED AS FOLLOWS: [PH4P]+ < [BUPH3P]+ = [PGPH3P]+ < [V PH3P]+ = [MEPH3P]+ = [CPRPH3P]+. THIS ORDER IS CONNECTED WITH THE SIZE OF THE INTERFACIAL INTERACTIONS OF THE ADSORBED CATIONS. THE STRONG INTERACTIONS OF THE Π-ELECTRODES OF THE PHENYL-GROUPS AT POSITIVE AND SMALL NEGATIVE POLARIZATIONS SUGGEST THAT THE ABOVE CATIONS ARE ADSORBED WITH THEIR 3 PHENYL GROUPS ORIENTED TOWARDS THE METAL SURFACE. THE REGULAR SHAPE OF THE CAPACITANCE-VOLTAGE AND CAPACITANCE-TIME CURVES OF THESE SUBSTANCES REVEAL THAT THE SAME ORIENTATION IS ALSO MAINTAINED AT HIGH NEGATIVE POLARIZATIONS UP TO THEIR DISCHARGE POTENTIAL (- 1,8 V / SCE).
