USING THE STEEPEST DESCENT METHOD, THE PERMISSIBLE AREAS OFMOTION ARE DERIVED THROUGH THEIR ZERO-VELOCITY CONTOURS. THESE CONTOURS REVEAL A NUMBER OF EQUILIBRIUM POINTS ON EACH EQUATORIAL PLANE, THE STABILITY OF WHICH IS STUDIED BY MEANS OF THE CHARACTERISTIC EXPONENTS. NEXT, SOME CLASSICAL NUMERICAL TECHNIQUES ARE APPLIED TO FIND FAMILIES OF SYMMETRIC PERIODIC ORBITS. THE STABILITY FOR EACH ORBIT IS THEN INVESTIGATED USING VARIATIONAL EQUATIONS.
