ΣΥΓΚΡΙΤΙΚΗ ΜΕΛΕΤΗ ΤΗΣ ΓΛΥΚΟΖΟΑΙΜΟΣΦΑΙΡΙΝΗΣ (CT- 6) ΚΑΙ ΤΗΣ ΚΑΜΠΥΛΗΣ ΓΛΥΚΟΖΗΣ (OGTT) ΣΕ ΦΥΣΙΟΛΟΓΙΚΕΣ ΚΑΙ ΠΑΘΟΛΟΓΙΚΕΣ ΚΑΤΑΣΤΑΣΕΙΣ

In the present study G-Hb determination were carried out parallel to glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in a group of 64 subjects, of both sexes, 27 of which were healthy, normal individuals whilst 37 were diabetics with a pathological glucose tolerance test. Our aim was to try and prove whether G-Hb could be used as an Index for the diagnosis and follow up in cases of diabetes. G-Hb measurements were performed by column chromatography and by electrophoresis where chromatography was proved to be the method of choice because of its accuracy, low cost, reproducibility and because it is less time consuming. The difference of OGTT values amongst the normal males and females was insignificant. An inhibitor of a-glucosidase, acarbose, was given to the diabetic patients for a period of three weeks in order to inhibit the intestinal absorption of carbohydrates. It is worth mentioning that although there was a significant fall of glucose levels after the treatment, the changes of G-Hb values were not significant owing most probably to the short time of treatment in correlation with erythrocyte 1ife span. Changes in the values of G-Hb at the different stages of OGTT were of no considerable significant. Considerable changes of OGTT and only very small of G-Hb values were observed after administration of a-glycosidase inhibitors, for a period of three weeks to 17 diabetics patients. Highly significant was the correlation of G-Hb and OGTT at the peak of the curve (r= + 0,83) up to the extend that glucose tolerance test may be replaced by G-Hb which has been proved a farely accurate, quick, and simple to perform screening test for the detection of diabetes.
