Abstract

dc:description

Alkaline phosphatase, phosphohexosoisomerase, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, 5'-nucleotidase, and carcinoembryonic antigen were determined in 256 cancer patients in order to evaluate their significance in diagnosis and patient monitoring. Our results indicate that in most cases there is a marked increase of phosphohexosoisomerase. The levels of the other biochemical parameters varied according to tumour localization and the severity of the patient's condition. In follow-up cases tPTey reflected response to treatment and suggested the prognosis of the disease. Our results also indicate that the values obtained for these five parameters follow a distinct pattern for each category of tumour. However, the limited number of cases in some categories does not permit us to be assertive.
