Although now widely accepted, there remains a host of competing and complementary techniques including DESI, MALDI, SIMS, and DART ionization techniques that allow the researchers to obtain appreciable ion intensities for mapping purposes. Instrumentation further is, rapidly advancing with significant progress in TOF, ion trap, and quadrupole instrumentation for mapping.
