Her story was highlighted to raise consciousness regarding the underrepresentation of Black women in conducting, motivate hiring committees to recruit more Black women in this white male-dominated space, inspire Black female music students to become role models for future generations by leading in the field of instrumental music, and offer advice to music educators. A narrative inquiry approach was accomplished by using Dr. Lundy’s story as data and interpreting it in narrative form. The specific genre of this narrative research can be described as biographical due to the retelling format, which combined characteristics of the life story and oral history. The Labov model was used for structure and as a method of data analysis. Black Feminist Thought (BFT) also informed data analysis and served as the conceptual framework for this research.","abstract_html":"The purpose of this study is to better understand the experiences and challenges of Dr. Anne Lundy, a Black female orchestra conductor.
