“Raman Spectroscopy of Layered Cultural Heritage Materials” is a dedicated PhD thesis on Raman spectroscopy and its applications with a special focus on the non-invasive and non‑destructive analysis of layered structures in works of art. It combines the concepts of direct and stratigraphic analysis, in order to propose pioneering solutions in the field of Raman spectroscopy and cultural heritage studies. This PhD thesis tries to overcome a possible limitation of traditional Raman spectroscopy by using micro-SORS to obtain information that originates from beneath the surface. Recent developments of the micro‑SORS technique have set the starting point for the development of new approaches.
