High-Resolution Thermal Measurements in Fluids

Abstract

Based on the thermal measuring methods for mass-flow sensors a thin-film sensor is presented allowing flow-rate measurements of down to 1 milligramm per hour, as required for application in medical dosing systems. <br>Due to the fast response of the sensor to thermal actuation and its low power requirements with the subsequent low thermal influence of the analyzed fluid, a <br>method is presented for the characterization of the thermal material parameters, particularly thermal conductivity and specific heat, of liquids and gases on the frequency domain. Similar to the electrical impedance measurement dynamic thermal measurements are carried out resulting in 'thermal Bode diagramms' allowing the identification of different fluids.
