Abstract
dc:description.abstract<p><em>My Personal Jesus and Other True Stories</em> is a collection of essays about my Catholic upbringing, family relationships, struggles with depression, and my spiritual journey as a search for emotional healing. These stories, written in loosely braided formats, take place in such settings as the family farm in Missouri where my mother grew up, a redwood forest on the coast of California, and a Spiritist healing center in Abadiânia, Brazil. Taken together, My Personal Jesus and Other True Stories shares lessons about acceptance and healing from the perspective of a white, Midwestern, spiritually-seeking woman, dating from the 1960s through the present day. </p>
