Abstract
dc:description.abstract<p>This manuscript addresses the results of acknowledging the impulse to create and the consequent process of working and reworking the original creation to the finished product of a poem. In my critical introduction, I discuss the craft techniques of Billy Collins, E. E. Cummings, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Brenda Hillman, Ted Kooser, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Lynn McMahon, Mary Oliver, Charles Olsen, Theodore Roethke, and Wallace Stevens. Additionally, Mark Strand and Evan Boland are featured for their commentary on the work of Edna St. Vincent Milay which evened out and completed my observations in my attempt to express myself through a poetic journey of "finding the self."</p>
