The Pixelated Jolly Roger: an Ethnographic Analysis of Online Pirates

<p>Piracy of intellectual property has become an increasing concern for the major content industries world-wide. This piece of ethnographic research was directed towards studying one of the groups that are under the ire of these content industries. Roughly a month and a half was spent on an online discussion board with this group of pirates in an attempt to understand their beliefs and the ways that they interact with copyright. Three major categories are discussed pertaining to this group: their motivations, accounts, and contradictions apparent within the group.</p>
