The novel focuses on the construction of an identity for the migrant woman and explores the themes of loss and familial rape within tradition bound societies. In the novel, and in the essay that follows, I hope to highlight my concerns with migrant females, rape within families and within cultures and how these issues are discussed in contemporary Australia. The narrative strategy of the novel is a limited first person point of view, with occasional ‘breaks’ and forays into the minds of other characters.
