Background: Between 1980 -1993 in Western Australia. 2569 babies were delivered stillborn. No sufficient cause of death could be identified for 1291 of these babies. This is a significant health issue that warranted further investigation. The objective of such a review was to provide baseline evidence that could be used to recommend the development of preventative strategies such as health promotion programs that could be implemented to potentially reduce or prevent the number of unexplained stillborn babies.
