The objective of volume rendering is to produce two dimensional images that allow the viewer to easily interpret the three dimensional nature of the dataset. This paper provides an analysis and comparison of various rendering techniques in the context of visualizing medical data. In particular, two specific implementations of direct volume renderers are discussed.
