Improving Daily Evaluations of the Ventilated Patient
Abstract
dc:description.abstract
Due to the increase risk of infection, anxiety, and mortality, patients requiring mechanical ventilation should be weaned from the ventilator as soon as possible. Current literature suggests that nurse-led ventilator weaning procedures using standardized protocols can improve patient outcomes and decrease unnecessary ventilator days. Studies show that increased compliance with these protocols can positively affect patient outcomes. A review of published literature between the years of 199 j and 2010 reflect current practices.
