Painting a Vision of Global Ecological Ethics Through the Synhesis of Godess Spirituality and Buddist Philosopy
Abstract
dc:description.abstract<p>This thesis argues that humans have instigated a state of ecological crisis by acting upon false premises regarding our relationship to each other and to the planet. Since false premises are at the root of this problem, the cultivation of alternative paradigms could present a remedy. Such alternate thought modalities can be found in the fields of Buddhism and Goddess spirituality. These traditions provide insights that may aid us in our search for a global ecological ethic as we make the transition from earth destruction to earth preservation. But this ethic cannot be addressed solely within the confines of the verbal and the cognitive, it must also be found and expressed in visual language. That is why I have chosen to articulate my vision of global ecological ethics with paint on canvas as well as with words on paper.</p>
