Dryden's Pegasus: Heroic Tone in Macflecknoe

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This study will attempt to establish a poetic correlative for Dryden's power of performance. Where Hemphill failed to illustrate a specific relationship of sound to sense, this study will extend his basic analysis of the metrical variations of the heroic lines in “MacFlecknoe,” in an attempt to establish a significant relationship of meaning, metre, and heroic tone.
