A Study of the Prepositions in Livy Book Thirty-Eight
Abstract
dc:description.abstract<p>The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of the prepositions in Book Thirty-eight of Livy, and to compare wherever possible his usages with those of the Classical writers. While emphasis is placed on Livy’s divergence from the classical standards, his adherence to classical usage is also indicated. The text used is Livy, with an English translation, by E. T. Sage, Vol. IX, Cambridge (Harvard University Press), 1935 (Loeb Classical Library).</p> <p>My investigation has been based chiefly on the treatment of the prepositions in Kuhner-Stegmann, Ausfuhrliche lateinische Grammatik, and Leumann-Hofmann, Lateinische Grammatik, 5th edition.</p> <p>The following abbreviations have been adopted throughout: L.-Hof. - Leumann-Hofmann; K.-Steg. = Kuhner-Stegmann; T.L.L. = Thesaurus Linguae Latinae.</p>
