Educational technology is one of the primary focuses of many educational policy reforms designed to improve student outcomes and reach state and federal standards. This literature review analyzed current research for trends in teacher and student attitudes toward mathematics-related technology, assessed effective types of technology related to mathematics instruction and implementation practices, and finally examined the cost-effectiveness of technology use when compared to other interventions. Technology that emphasizes real-life simulations and collaborative inquiry tends to have the best results both for increasing mathematical skill and maintaining good teacher and student attitudes. Some critical components to effective implementation are professional training, ongoing technical support, and equitable distribution.
