A Study on the Relationship Between Participation in School-Sponsored Sports and Academic Achievement in High School
Abstract
dc:description.abstract<p>This study examines the relationship between students’ grade point averages during grading periods in which they participated in sports and grading periods in which they did not participate in sports. The study used a written survey with closed- and open- ended questions about students’ participation in school-sponsored sports. A sample of 30 students who participated in sports at a high school in a suburban Northern California town was used as the survey respondents. A matched pairs t-test, a regression slope t-test, and chi square tests were utilized to analyze the data. Findings suggested that there were no significant differences between the students grade point averages in participatory compared to non-participatory periods.</p>
