No Child Left Behind in California: Accountability for Studetn Proficiency
Abstract
dc:description.abstract<p>According to President George W. Bush, no child should be left behind in education. By the year 2014, 100% of students are expected to score proficient or higher on their state’s standards-based tests in language arts and math. The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore whether or not the state of California can meet the requirement of 100% student proficiency. Elected school board members were interviewed about their opinions on the accountability portion of No Child Left Behind. They, along with other researchers, have serious doubts about whether a state as diverse as California will be able to meet the proficiency requirement of the law.</p>
