The Bison Camp, a pilot project of the Indigenous Learning Institute, (ILI), took place June 17-22, 2002, on the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Reservation. The participants were families recruited through Fort Peck Community College. There is a need to support indigenous programs that utilize outdoor education from an indigenous perspective for indigenous people. This thesis documents the outcomes of the Bison Camp. Through qualitative and quantitative research, analysis of pre-post surveys of learning outcomes, program evaluations, participants increased their knowledge and experience in the areas of cultural integrity and family wellness. This research study may inform an emerging field called Indigenous Outdoor Education.
