Teacher's Perceptions of the Quality of New Teacher Preparation

<p>This study examined teacher preparation as experienced by educators in the Bay Area. Twenty first year, second year, third year and tenured teachers participated in this survey Certain themes emerged from their responses. Some teachers felt ready to teach, while others did not. Teachers had concerns about the preparation of new teachers today and many felt a need to improve teacher training programs. Completion of requirements does not necessarily make a good teacher. Results of my study indicate that certain factors do indeed play a role in teacher confidence. Background and educational experience .as another major component to teacher confidence. Responses to the questionnaire indicate the value of strong collegial support during the initial years of teaching. The importance of strong student teaching had an impact; new teachers want less theory and placements had an impact, more exemplary role models.</p>
