Alternative Assessments for Elementary Students with Learning Disabilities in the Areas of Reading and Writing
Abstract
dc:description.abstract
Elementary school students with learning disabilities in the areas of reading and writing have a need for alternative assessment strategies. Alternative assessment refers to » alteration to the standard form of assessment such as examinations and/or assignments, or an alteration of the conditions related to the assessment which will accommodate the special needs of the learning disabled student Learning disabled students who undertake alternative assessment with strategies designed to meet their needs will achieve a higher level of success in their performance than they would without such strategies. The improved performance outcome is more accurately reflective of the student’s academic ability and acquisition of skills and knowledge because the student’s learning disability has been accommodated.
