The Effects of Soothing Sounds on Individual Seatwork

Abstract

<p>Music is an extremely powerful medium that has the ability to affect people in many ways. Of primary concern to educators is music's capacity to produce a calming effect in people. A study was conducted to determine the effect of soothing music and sounds on students' performance on individual seatwork. The study indicates that the playing of soothing music or sounds during times of individual seatwork increases time on task, productivity, and academic success.</p>
