Adolescence is a challenging phase of human development with many external and internal pressures. The difficulty of adolescence is compounded when a family immigrates to another country, thus introducing a host of new stressors. Hispanic immigrants represent a growing sector of the US population. This research study focuses on Hispanic adolescent immigrants and seeks to determine the efficacy of the Bicultural Identity Development art therapy directive to foster resiliency within an at-risk population by increasing self-esteem, reducing acculturative stress, and promoting healthy coping skills. The sponsoring agency for this grant is the Youth Service Bureau (housed underneath the San Francisco YMCA), which serves families and children in the Bay Area.
