Además, se llevaron a cabo investigaciones mecanísticas de transformaciones catalíticas fotorredox mediante cálculos teóricos. La tesis se divide en diferentes capítulos: El Capítulo 1 introduce el concepto de fotoquímica, abarcando su evolución desde la antigüedad hasta la actualidad, y ofrece una breve explicación de sus fundamentos. Asimismo, se describen algunas aplicaciones representativas que evidencian la versatilidad de esta disciplina. El Capítulo 3 se divide en tres secciones: comienza con una presentación del estado del arte en el campo de la fotoprotección, seguido de la síntesis, diseño, caracterización y evaluación de propiedades de nuevas moléculas fotoprotectoras derivadas de compuestos naturales, y, finalmente se expone el desarrollo de una nueva familia de filtros solares diseñados para mitigar el daño ocasionado por la radiación visible de alta energía (HEVR, en sus siglas en inglés).
