Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This thesis collection of poetry centers around the themes of family, love, relationships, death and an exploration of the poet's faith. Split into three parts, the poet delves into different themes in each. In the first part, the poet centers the reader in their perspective, providing poems concerning the self and the world around them. In the second, relationships both romantic and familial are explored. In the last section, the poet returns their focus to the discovery of the foundations of the self from the first section in connection with the relationships established in the second section. This collection utilizes playful language, sensory and nature imagery and forms such as prose, sestina, long line and tercets, in addition to other traditional craft elements, in order to transform observation and introspection into poetry.
